The one-liner

Rawtake (rawtake.ai) turns raw, messy dictation or typing into clean, finished writing in the author's own voice — fixing mechanics only, never inventing a word — and seals a cryptographic Proof of Authorship record showing exactly what the writer wrote and what the tool touched.

Boilerplate

Short (~50 words)

Rawtake is a writing tool for Books and Pieces. Authors talk or type their raw words; Rawtake cleans the mechanics — spelling, punctuation, sentence breaks — in the writer's own voice, reports every change in plain English, and seals a verifiable Proof of Authorship record. Every word starts with the writer. rawtake.ai

Longer (~100 words)

Rawtake (rawtake.ai) is a writing tool built on one rule: you stay the author. Writers dictate or type exactly as the words come — typos, run-ons, and all — and Rawtake returns clean, finished prose in their own voice, fixing mechanics only and never inventing a word. Every paragraph shows three columns: the raw take, the clean take, and a plain-English report of every change. The whole history is sealed into a cryptographically verifiable Proof of Authorship record, giving authors a way to show what they wrote in an era of AI-authorship doubt. Founded in 2026 by novelist Matthew Hawkes. Built in Utah.

Founder bio

Matthew Hawkes — Founder, Rawtake · Author of The Book of Miner

Matt Hawkes is a Utah-based novelist, 184,000 words into a science-fiction trilogy, who built the tool he needed to finish it. His problem wasn't the writing — it was the mechanics: "My brain moves faster with the words than it does with the mechanics." A non-programmer, he designed and shipped Rawtake using AI coding tools, going from idea to a live product with real billing in a matter of days — then finished drafting his book inside it.

He talks candidly about dictation-first writing, keeping authorship provable in the AI era, and what it's like to build software when you can't write code.

Story angles

1 · Proof, not detection

AI detectors guess from the output — and get it wrong. Rawtake records the process: every raw word, every change, sealed and verifiable. As accusations of AI writing hit human authors, provenance is becoming the debate in publishing. Rawtake is a process-level answer.

2 · The middle path in the AI-writing wars

Not anti-AI, not "let the machine write it." Rawtake's line — AI for mechanics only, never inventing a word, with receipts — is a position many working authors hold and few tools embody.

3 · A novelist who can't code shipped a SaaS

Founder-as-user story: a non-technical author designed, built, and launched a full product — auth, billing, AI pipeline — using AI coding tools, in days, on a shoestring. The build itself is a story about what solo founders can now do.

4 · Talk your book

Dictation-first drafting from the truck, the trail, or the line at the bank — and the cleanup that used to make dictation impractical is the part Rawtake deletes.
